What a summer it has been! We’ve been incredibly busy here at Curl Girl Productions, and have finally caught our breath after a whirlwind week at the Shireland CBSO Academy. We teamed up with local creatives and young buddying actors for “Indian Summer: A Play in a Week,”

Thanks to The Sir Barry Jackson Trust, we were able to run our summer camp designed to open doors for global majority audiences—creative voices who have historically faced barriers to representation and engagement. The funding gave us the perfect foundation to bring this inclusive vision to life, and the results were spectacular.
We didn’t just hand the participants a script and tell them where to stand. Instead, our team of professional theatre makers threw them straight into the deep end of the creative process. Over the course of the week, this amazing group built a theatrical universe from scratch around the core theme of kindness. They became scriptwriters, set designers, costume makers, and composers. Ideas sparkled, the music they composed brought the room to life, and the energy was brilliant.

It all led up to our grand finale at the end of the week and we are still bursting with pride. Every single child stepped into the spotlight, completely commanding the stage with full speaking lines, complex theatrical movements, and choreographed dance routines that had the audience cheering.
The reaction from families was pure awe. The room was packed with proud parents who couldn’t quite believe the sheer scale of what was achieved in such a short window of time. They watched their children transform into confident stage performers and backstage leaders. Parents have already shared wonderful feedback about immediate boosts in their children’s teamwork, listening skills, and self-esteem.

Thanks to our incredible team of facilitators Vimal Korpal, Kiren Jogi, Alex Kapila, Sonia Bhamra and Freya Davis we were able to deliver a truly unforgettable, inclusive experience for these brilliant young people.
